Ol' Betsy

Ol' Betsy is in my family for almost 9 years already, she 'married' into my family back in form 1, I still remember she being driven into the porch by the salesman, papers were signed, the old sapphire blue Nissan Sunny was driven away, and then starts her tenure in my family.

She served my family well, although she will throw some petty tantrums now and then, she might shed a bumper trimming now and then, or a punture, or a broken headlight or a... anyway, what she ask for is regular oil changes and routine tuning; dad, being an engineer, understood how a car works, doesn't stinge on her, and always provide her with what she needs. She is well into the 200,000 range already, and still she doesn't need an engine overhaul, that's a testimonial to her health despite her age...

I got my license when she is around 5 years old, being a avid driving game fan, I always rev her hard, you know, I belive in the crap that her torque arrive at the 5000 rpm range, her puny 1.3 litre engine is always singing it's lung out under my heavy right foot.... and, it is not helping that I live in a palm oil estate where roads are unpaved, and everyone in my family drives with guts on unpaved roads...

... and yes, she is still up and going despite the abuse I throw at her... she is just as tough as nails!

and now, she has moved to cyberjaya where roads are paved and smooth, her suspension might take less abuse now, but her engine remains as hardworking as ever under my lead right foot.

It may sound corny, but she sometimes is my refuge, whenever I am unhappy I will take her out for a drive, whether I am kind with her or not, she just doesn't complain. She will swallow my stuff so that I don't have to clutter my table, she will not complain when I listen to the same tracks again and again, she is just a faithful companion to me.

Let's just hope she remains in my hands in time to come.
